Zambia's National Assembly sees presidential nominations and new MP data

Zambia’s National Assembly is seeing a shift in composition following presidential nominations and recent elections. President Hakainde Hichilema has utilized constitutional powers to nominate five individuals to Parliament: Professor Roma Chilengi, Dr Gilbert Siame, Mulambo Haimbe, Mubita Anakoka, and Noel Nkhoma.

Three of these nominees have been appointed to the Cabinet: Chilengi as Minister of Health, Siame as Minister of Green Economy and Environment, and Haimbe as Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Situmbeko Musokotwane continues his role as Minister of Finance and National Planning.

Regarding the broader legislative makeup, out of the 224 members elected so far, 34 are female and 190 are male. The United Party for National Development (UPND) holds 41 female seats through a combination of elected and proportional representation, while the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) holds 14.
