Zambia's Presidential Election Campaign Heats Up in Lusaka
Opposition candidate Brian Mundubile and running mate Makebi Zulushift their Tonse Pamodzi Alliance campaign to Lusaka Province, planning a four‑day road‑show tour that includes rallies in Luangwa, Rufunsa, Kafue, Chilanga, Munali, Lusaka Central, Kabwata, Chawama, Makeni, Kanyama and a final rally in Matero. The alliance aims to capture the capital’s large voter base ahead of the August 13 general election, promising a “reset” of the economy, free education, agricultural reforms and job creation.
Incumbent President Hakainde Hichilema, seeking a second term, continues his nationwide tour with a focus on Muchinga Province, highlighting his administration’s infrastructure projects and warning against a return of the former Patriotic Front.
In a separate commentary, Professor Namukolo Miyanda criticised UPND aspirant Makai Makai for disrespecting Barotseland elders Prince Dr Akashambatwa Mbikusita Lewanika and Hon. Clement Sinyinda, urging an apology and warning that such behaviour could affect voter sentiment in Western Province as the election approaches.
