Nura Umar Abdullahi, the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara State, has regained his freedom after 61 days in captivity. Abdullahi was abducted from his residence in Bungudu town on July 25, 2026, during an attack by armed bandits that resulted in the deaths of several security personnel.
According to the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the chairman and several other captives escaped during an intelligence-led military operation targeting a suspected terrorist location in the Kaura Namoda Local Government Area. The victims were intercepted by troops in the vicinity, provided with security cover, and evacuated to a military medical facility for treatment, evaluation, and debriefing.
While one victim has already been reunited with their family, authorities are working to facilitate the safe return of the remaining captives to their families and the Zamfara State Government. The military command has stated it will continue clearance operations to disrupt terrorist activities in the region.
