Zamfara State and China’s GCL Group move ahead on large‑scale solar partnership

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State met with executives of China’s GCL Group during a business delegation to China. The talks focused on establishing a large‑scale solar power project in Zamfara, leveraging the state’s abundant sunlight to support industrialisation, job creation and reliable electricity supply.

Both parties agreed to set up a joint technical working group to prepare feasibility studies, financing structures, regulatory approvals and implementation plans. GCL Group will dispatch an investment and technical team to Zamfara for on‑site assessments, while the state will facilitate stakeholder engagement. The meeting also included Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule and highlighted potential cooperation beyond power generation, such as technology transfer and local workforce development.

The partnership aims to unlock Zamfara’s solar potential, improve energy access for households and businesses, and attract further foreign investment to the region.
