Zamfara State intensifies diphtheria surveillance and control measures
The Zamfara State Ministry of Health, working with the World Health Organization (WHO), has increased surveillance and preparedness efforts to control diphtheria and other vaccine-preventable diseases.
During a recent review meeting with disease surveillance officers, officials assessed responses to suspected diphtheria cases and reviewed documentation for integrated disease surveillance. Health Commissioner Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, represented by Permanent Secretary Alhaji Rilwanu Zurmi, emphasized the need for prompt sample collection and laboratory confirmation to ensure accurate diagnosis and effective public health interventions.
WHO State Coordinator Dr. Raji Mukhtar also called for improved management of suspected cases in health facilities and urged authorities to intensify contact tracing and information sharing to facilitate rapid responses.
