Zamfara State marks 30th anniversary with new international airport
Zamfara State is preparing to mark its 30th anniversary of creation on 1 October 2026. Originally carved out of Sokoto State by the late General Sani Abacha in 1996, the state is celebrating three decades of history and institutional building.
As part of the anniversary milestones, commercial operations have commenced at the newly constructed Gusau International Airport. The facility was built under the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal to address the state's long-standing lack of aviation infrastructure.
Minister of State for Defence Bello Mohammed Matawalle has congratulated the citizens, emphasizing a continued commitment to the state's development. The current state administration has focused on interventions in security, healthcare, education, and agriculture to address regional challenges and development deficits.
