Zamora police officers detained following fatal bar attack

Four municipal police officers in Zamora, Michoacán, have been detained following an investigation into an armed attack at the El Nuevo Quijote bar. The incident, which occurred on a Friday night, resulted in five deaths and two injuries.

The Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) suspects the officers of aggravated robbery and illicit exercise of public service. Investigators noted that the crime scene appeared altered and discovered that the surveillance camera storage equipment had been removed.

Upon inspecting the official patrol vehicle used by the responding officers, authorities found several cell phones, a .40 caliber firearm with a loaded magazine, and a dog believed to have been stolen from the establishment. The Governor of Michoacán, Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, confirmed that state and federal security forces have increased their presence in the Zamora-Jacona region to address the ongoing violence.
