Zamora Provincial Council demands improved rail services to Madrid
The Provincial Council of Zamora has unanimously approved an institutional declaration to demand improvements to the region's railway services from the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility and Renfe.
A primary demand is the implementation of an Avant service between Zamora and Madrid that allows passengers to arrive in the capital before 08:00. This connection is intended to support commuters, students, and professionals who rely on high-speed rail for daily travel.
Additionally, the declaration calls for: • Increasing the frequency of the Puebla de Sanabria to Valladolid route to two daily round trips to combat rural isolation and depopulation. • Correcting persistent delays in early morning services. • Ensuring the presence of conductors on medium-distance trains to assist elderly passengers and those facing difficulties with ticket purchases.
The Council emphasizes that improving rail infrastructure is essential for economic development, territorial cohesion, and fighting depopulation in the province.
