Zamora unemployment rises to 10.23% after summer season
The labor market in Zamora is showing signs of weakness following the end of the summer season. According to data from September, the unemployment rate in the province has risen to 10.23%, with 7,927 people currently unemployed. This represents an increase of 132 individuals compared to August.
The labor union CCOO noted that the service sector was the primary driver of this increase, accounting for 106 of the new unemployed individuals. The union expressed concern regarding the province's heavy reliance on seasonal activity and the high prevalence of temporary contracts. Of the 4,958 contracts formalized in September, 65.77% were temporary, while only 34.23% were permanent.
A significant gender gap persists in the local job market. Women account for 58.7% of the total unemployed population in Zamora, totaling 4,655 individuals. The monthly increase in unemployment also disproportionately affected women, with 88 more women entering unemployment compared to 44 men.
