Zandvoort implements reusable cup system to reduce festival waste

The municipality of Zandvoort, the Zandvoort Racefestival, and local hospitality businesses are collaborating to implement a large-scale transition to reusable hardcups to reduce plastic waste. The initiative begins on August 15 at Gasthuisplein and extends to various locations during the Formula 1 weekend.

This centralized system involves collecting, professionally cleaning, and reusing cups rather than discarding single-use plastics. The project, coordinated by Rubbish Reusables with support from waste processor Spaarnelanden, aims to provide practical experience for making reusable cup systems a permanent fixture for all future events in the coastal town.

In addition to waste management, event organizers are emphasizing the importance of proper bicycle parking to prevent chaos. Effective planning for temporary bicycle storage is highlighted as a necessity to prevent the blockage of emergency exits, pedestrian paths, and public infrastructure during high-traffic festival days.
