Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings urges new climate finance strategies for Ghana
Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology, has stated that promised climate finance from wealthy nations has largely failed to reach Ghana. During her vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on August 27, she argued that Ghana must seek alternative funding and technology sources.
To address the funding gap, she proposed leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to facilitate climate-related investments and technology sharing. She also advocated for increased South-South cooperation, suggesting partnerships with other developing nations that face similar environmental challenges.
Additionally, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings announced her intention to resign from her current role as Second Vice President of the Pan-African Parliament if her ministerial appointment is confirmed by Parliament. She was elected to the Pan-African Parliament leadership in April 2026.
