Zanzibar ministers advocate for gender equality in leadership roles

At the Sixth Women in Leadership Forum held in Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar officials emphasized the need for transparency and equality in institutional recruitment and promotion to increase female representation in leadership roles.

Dr. Riziki Pembe Juma, Zanzibar’s Minister for Information, Arts, Culture and Sports, noted that systemic barriers, workplace culture, and social attitudes often hinder women's advancement. She called on both public and private institutions to implement procedures that prevent discrimination and harassment, ensuring women can perform their duties with confidence.

Dr. Saada Salum Mkuya, Zanzibar’s Minister for Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, highlighted Tanzania’s National Development Vision 2050 as a vital tool for promoting gender equality and empowering women, youth, and persons with disabilities. She stressed that continuous capacity-building is essential to equip women with the skills required for senior positions in both the public and private sectors.

The National Development Vision 2050 aims for a 50 percent representation of women in leadership positions, aligning with the Sixth-Phase Government's commitment to women's empowerment.
