Zanzibar reaches national consensus for unity government

Zanzibar leaders and citizens have reached a national consensus to foster unity and development, according to Mary Chatanda, Chairperson of the CCM Women's Union (UWT). The agreement focuses on prioritizing national progress over political differences.

Chatanda praised President Dr. Hussein Mwinyi for his leadership in engaging retired leaders and opposition parties to facilitate the formation of a Government of National Unity (SUK). She specifically commended politicians from ACT-Wazalendo for participating in negotiations to ensure Zanzibar's stability and development. This follows ongoing discussions between the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) and ACT-Wazalendo to finalize the unity government structure following the October 2025 general elections.
