Regional governments implement water and infrastructure management measures
Various regional governments are implementing measures to manage water resources and infrastructure. In Puebla, Mexico, Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier has initiated a project to recover hydraulic capacity by removing silt, weeds, and logs from the Colombres crossing. This effort aims to increase water conduction capacity from 8-10 to 40-50 cubic meters per second, protecting approximately 56 square kilometers from flooding.
In Jalisco, Mexico, the State Water Commission (CEA) has begun desilting the Tecata dam and Zapotlanejo stream following recent floods to mitigate future risks. Meanwhile, in Paraguay, Vice President Pedro Alliana signed decrees to reallocate budget funds toward hospital infrastructure, road networks, and waterway maintenance.
Other regional updates include: the Central District of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, has partnered with the 911 Emergency System to enhance video surveillance and data integration for urban mobility and crime prevention; Marinilla, Colombia, is monitoring high water consumers due to El Niño conditions; and the National Water Authority in Chincha, Peru, is inspecting river infrastructure to prevent risks from rising water levels.
