Zaporizhzhia bombed by Russian forces, civilian casualties and nuclear plant water disruption

A Russian attack on the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia killed at least one woman and injured a dozen or more civilians, including several children. Governor Ivan Fedorov reported that five glide bombs struck residential areas and a private medical facility, wounding at least 25 people, among them six minors and a three‑month‑old infant.

The International Atomic Energy Agency said the strikes affected the water supply for parts of the occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi noted that while the plant’s cooling water needs are still met by well water, access to the plant’s mains water has been limited since mid‑July. Zaporizhzhia, frequently targeted because of its proximity to the front line, remains under partial Russian control despite annexation claims made in 2022.
