Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant switches to backup diesel generators
The Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) has switched to emergency diesel generators following the loss of its external electricity supply. The disruption occurred after damage to the Ferrosplavnaya-1 high-voltage power line, which triggered an automatic shutdown by the facility's automation system.
Management stated that plant personnel are monitoring equipment operating parameters and that all necessary measures are being taken to maintain the safety of the power units. Although the facility is not currently generating electricity, it requires a reliable power supply to maintain cooling for nuclear fuel and other critical systems.
Radiation levels at the site remain within normal limits. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been informed of the power loss and the transition to backup systems.
