Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant targeted by multiple drone attacks

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine has been targeted by multiple drone attacks over recent days.

According to the IAEA, two workers were injured on Tuesday following a drone strike near the cooling water pond. On Wednesday, a flying object exploded near the dry storage facility for reactor fuel, and a third drone targeted the water sprinkler system.

Despite these incidents, radiation levels at the facility, which is located on the front lines, remain within normal limits. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi described the attacks on nuclear power plants as ‘unacceptable’ and urged all parties to the conflict to exercise maximum restraint.

The Zaporizhzhia plant is Europe’s largest nuclear power station. While its six reactors are currently offline, continuous cooling is required to maintain safety. The IAEA maintains a permanent team at the site to monitor the situation.
