Zaporizhzhia opens underground kindergarten for child safety

A new underground kindergarten has opened in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine, to protect children from explosions, airstrikes, and radiation. Located near the front line, the 900-square-meter facility is designed to accommodate up to 140 children, with 115 currently enrolled.

Ukrainian official Serhii Koretskyi stated that the facility allows children to learn, play, and eat in a secure environment. The structure is also equipped to be accessible to children with special educational needs. The opening follows a similar initiative in the Kharkiv region earlier this school year.

The facility was recently visited by Mykhailo Semikin, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration; Boris Ruge, the German Ambassador to Ukraine; and Ivan Fedorov, co-chairman of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Defense Council.
