Zaporizhstal steel plant hit by Russian strike, killing seven workers
A Russian missile strike on the Zaporizhstal steel plant in southeastern Ukraine has killed seven workers and injured at least 21 to 24 others. The attack, which occurred as employees were moving toward shelters following air-raid sirens, has forced the plant to suspend all production. The parent company, Metinvest Group, described the facility as a civilian industrial site.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the strike involved North Korean-supplied ballistic missiles, alongside Russian Zircon hypersonic missiles and guided aerial bombs. Zelenskyy warned that the increasing use of North Korean weaponry and the potential deployment of thousands of North Korean troops signal Russia's intent to escalate the conflict rather than seek peace.
The Russian Ministry of Defense acknowledged striking a metallurgical plant in the region, claiming it was used by the Ukrainian military to produce steel for fortifications and armor.
In broader developments, Russian attacks on other Ukrainian cities resulted in at least 10 civilian deaths, including three in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Meanwhile, Ukrainian drone strikes targeted Russian infrastructure, including the TANECO oil refinery and logistics facilities, causing fires and casualties in Russian territories.
