Rubén Rocha Moya resumes Sinaloa governorship after 112-day leave FAST-MOVING

Rubén Rocha Moya has resumed his duties as the Governor of Sinaloa following a 112-day temporary leave of absence. The leave was requested on May 1 to allow him to cooperate with judicial investigations following allegations from the United States government regarding potential links to organized crime, specifically the Los Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel.

During his absence, Rocha Moya submitted himself to investigations by the Fiscalía General de la República (FGR). The FGR has since concluded that there is no evidence to support the criminal allegations made by U.S. authorities. Rocha Moya stated upon his return that he is acting with his “frente limpia y en alto” (clean forehead and head held high) and dismissed the accusations as politically motivated and interference from foreign entities.

His return marks the beginning of the final phase of his administration, which is scheduled to conclude on October 31, 2027. While the governor maintains his innocence, the return has drawn sharp criticism from political opponents, including members of the PRI, who have questioned the transparency of the investigations and the integrity of the ruling party.
