Zara Larsson faces controversy over employee requirements and Max Martin collaboration
Swedish singer Zara Larsson has faced criticism following comments made during an appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast. Larsson stated that she expects her employees to be able to perform a specific facial expression associated with adult content—referred to as a ‘goon face’—to demonstrate that they are ‘carefree’ and ‘silly’ enough to work with her. She noted that those unable to do so on the spot would be fired.
Social media users have criticized the singer, with some labeling the requirement as workplace harassment and questioning the ethics of such a condition for employment.
In a separate discussion on the same podcast, Larsson addressed her creative process, explaining why she has declined to collaborate on a full album with legendary producer Max Martin. While praising him as the ‘best songwriter in the world,’ Larsson expressed concern that his immense influence might cause her to feel ‘a little bit smaller’ and make it difficult for her to maintain her own creative voice in professional discussions.
