Zara withdraws children's costume following Nazi imagery controversy

Spanish fashion retailer Zara has withdrawn a children’s Halloween costume from sale following intense social media backlash. The garment, described as a “Kids’ Halloween Groom Costume,” featured grey and blue vertical stripes, decorative stitching, and a distressed fabric effect.

Critics and journalists pointed out that the design’s combination of striped patterns, weathered appearance, and cross-stitching closely resembled the uniforms worn by prisoners in Nazi concentration camps. Some observers also noted that certain details evoked imagery of barbed wire.

In response to the outcry, Zara issued an official apology, stating the company regrets any misunderstanding caused by the costume. The retailer confirmed the item has been removed from both its physical stores and online platforms. This incident follows previous controversies involving the brand’s marketing and product designs that drew comparisons to historical traumas.
