Zaragoza approves new civic ordinance with fines and restrictions

The Zaragoza City Council, led by Mayor Natalia Chueca of the PP, has approved a new civic ordinance to regulate public behavior, with fines ranging from 50 to 3,000 euros. The measure passed with support from the Vox party and councilwoman Marisa Gaspar.

Key provisions of the ordinance include restrictions on the use of the burka in public buildings. While not prohibited, individuals must first identify themselves to local police by showing their faces before being allowed to re-enter the premises with the garment on. Additionally, overnight stays in public parks, specifically mentioning Bruil, are now prohibited and classified as a minor infraction with fines between 51 and 750 euros.

The ordinance also includes penalties for bachelor and bachelorette parties that disturb public coexistence. The PSOE party has criticized the burka regulations, arguing they conflict with existing citizen security laws.
