Zaragoza Council Joins Spain's Climate Emergency Pact as Minister Calls for Broad Political Support

The Provincial Council of Zaragoza formally signed up to the State Pact on the Climate Emergency, an initiative launched by the Spanish Government to coordinate scientific, institutional and citizen‑focused actions against worsening climate impacts. Council president Juan Antonio Sánchez Quero highlighted recent severe forest fires in Leciñena and Ores as proof of the growing threat and stressed the need for stronger prevention and response measures.

Science, Innovation and Universities minister Diana Morant visited the fire‑affected area of Vall d’Uixó in the Valencian Community, where evacuations were underway. She urged the People’s Party to back the same State Pact, arguing that science already provides tools to combat climate change and that political consensus is essential to protect citizens from extreme weather events. Morant emphasized that the various administrations were coordinating their response to the fire.
