Zaragoza University riots leave eight police officers injured

Violent clashes erupted at the University of Zaragoza on Thursday, October 22, during an attempted appearance by activist Vito Quiles. The unrest occurred near the Faculty of Law when supporters of Quiles clashed with protesters organized by the Zaragoza Antifascist Coordinator.

Police reports indicate that eight officers were injured during the confrontations, with one officer in serious condition requiring surgery. Five individuals were arrested for alleged crimes of assault and public disorder, while 25 others were identified. The clashes resulted in significant material damage to police vehicles.

The University of Zaragoza issued a statement condemning the violence and describing the situation as ‘inadmissible’. The institution clarified that it had not authorized Quiles’s event and had attempted to prevent his entry to preserve institutional neutrality and ensure the campus remained a space for teaching and coexistence.
