Zarumilla residents protest land disputes as Roosevelt Park faces development concerns

In Peru, residents of the Zarumilla neighborhood in Juliaca have announced a protest scheduled for September 3 in front of the Judiciary. The demonstration follows a 40-month investigation by the Puno Organized Crime Prosecutor's Office regarding land disputes involving military barracks territory. Neighborhood leader Marcelino Mamani Lima criticized defense attempts to delay the process or individualize responsibilities among the 25 to 27 investigated individuals, maintaining that the actions were collective.

In Uruguay, residents of Canelones organized a mobilization at Roosevelt Park on September 2 to protest the potential loss of green spaces. The community expressed concern after seeing trees marked for removal, fearing the construction of a golf course. While local authorities stated the work is part of an avenue expansion project, documentation suggests various developments are planned for the area, including infrastructure for the Uruguayan Golf Association and a high-performance sports complex for the Uruguayan Football Association.
