Zastava Kovacnica factory power cut affects 220 workers
The Association of Free and Independent Trade Unions (ASNS) reported that Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) has disconnected electricity from the Zastava Kovacnica factory in Kragujevac. As a result, 220 workers have been placed on forced leave with compensation set at 60 percent of their wages.
ASNS stated that the power disconnection is due to unpaid electricity bills, noting that many defense industry factories face similar debts to EPS. The union expressed concern that these companies will be unable to settle their debts without being operational. ASNS suggested the move might be politically motivated following the victory of the Studentska lista and urged EPS management to negotiate repayment schedules with factory directors to avoid threatening workers' livelihoods.
Separately, reports have emerged alleging the irregular transfer of approximately 50 workers from Pro Tent to EPS. Employees at the Nikola Tesla Thermal Power Plant (TENT) claim these individuals are being rewarded for political loyalty to the SNS party. The allegations suggest these workers were being paid through Pro Tent while performing party tasks rather than official duties.
