Zavalla cooperative achieves organic certification for mill and food production
The Cooperativa de Trabajo Zavalla Santa Fe Ltda. has achieved organic certification for its production and food processing plant. Based in Zavalla, Santa Fe, the cooperative focuses on agroecological methods that avoid the use of agrochemicals.
The initiative follows local ordinances that restrict herbicide use within 200 meters of the peri-urban area and regulate chemical applications up to 3,000 meters. The cooperative manages approximately 60 hectares of crops, including wheat, sunflower, and corn. Wheat serves as a primary raw material for the mill, which produces whole wheat flour, pasta, pizza, and various baked goods.
President Julián Graziosi noted that the project began in 2021 with municipal support for agroecology. While the cooperative is growing, Graziosi mentioned that the current economic situation in the country requires a gradual expansion strategy and the development of new commercial channels to reach consumers in other provinces.
