Zavion Thomas faces role uncertainty despite explosive preseason touchdown

Chicago Bears rookie wide receiver Zavion Thomas recorded one of the fastest plays of the NFL preseason during a Week 3 matchup against the Tennessee Titans. On his first offensive snap, Thomas caught a deep pass from Tyson Bagent and ran for a 97-yard touchdown, reaching a top speed of 21.99 mph.

Despite the explosive performance, Bears offensive coordinator Press Taylor noted that the touchdown does not guarantee Thomas a significant role in the regular season. Taylor emphasized that the rookie must still prove he can master the offense and earn the coaching staff's trust on a weekly basis.

Thomas faces additional challenges due to missing time during training camp and the first two preseason games because of an injury. This has placed him in a position where he must catch up to other players in terms of experience and playbook comprehension as the team prepares for their season opener against the Carolina Panthers.
