Zazzau Emir backs 100% salary increase for Kaduna traditional rulers
The Emir of Zazzau, Ahmed Bamalli, has expressed support for a proposed 100 percent increase in the salaries and allowances of traditional rulers in Kaduna State. Bamalli, who serves as the Chairman of the Kaduna State Council of Chiefs, noted that the current remuneration is insufficient due to inflation and the declining purchasing power of the naira.
The proposed pay hike has reportedly been under consideration for approximately seven months. Governor Uba Sani and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sadiq Mamman Lagos, are currently working on the implementation of the increase following an official announcement by the state government.
In addition to discussing the economic relief for traditional leaders, the Emir highlighted the role of traditional institutions in governance. He noted that the Zazzau Emirate has utilized its alternative dispute resolution mechanism to settle over 2,000 civil cases in the past two years, helping to reduce the burden on conventional courts.
