Zcash experiences significant rally driven by privacy narrative
Zcash (ZEC) has seen a substantial price increase of nearly 3,000%, attracting large-scale investors who previously built wealth through Bitcoin. This shift suggests a renewed market interest in financial privacy as an investment thesis.
Unlike Bitcoin, which is transparent by design, Zcash utilizes zk-SNARKs (zero-knowledge proofs) to allow for protected transactions that hide sender, receiver, and amount details. The cryptocurrency shares several structural similarities with Bitcoin, including a maximum supply of 21 million units, a halving schedule, and a proof-of-work mining mechanism.
Despite the rally, Zcash faces challenges regarding market recovery and liquidity. Data indicates that Zcash requires a 158.2% recovery to reach previous highs, compared to 54.0% for Bitcoin. Additionally, Zcash's daily trading volume of approximately $806 million is significantly lower than Bitcoin's $24.8 billion. The network is currently preparing for the NU7 implementation, which aims to reduce block confirmation times from 75 seconds to 25 seconds.
