Zcash surges 189% following ETF launch and NU7 upgrade approval

Zcash (ZEC) has experienced a significant price surge, rising approximately 189% over a 30-day period to reach levels near $1,489. This rally is attributed to several key factors, including the August 2026 launch of Grayscale’s Zcash spot ETF (ZCSH) on NYSE Arca, which provided institutional access following the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission closing its investigation into the Zcash Foundation without enforcement action.

Simultaneously, the Zcash community has overwhelmingly approved major technical changes through the NU7 network upgrade. In a governance poll, holders backed reducing the target block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds and voted to preserve the existing halving schedule. The upgrade also includes the Network Sustainability Mechanism (NSM), a proposal designed to recycle transaction fees into future miner rewards to address long-term security budgets.

Market sentiment has been further bolstered by endorsements from industry figures, such as Paradigm co-founder Matt Huang, who praised the network’s inflation-funded developer fund as an “elegant mechanism” for sustaining public goods, despite noting potential governance risks.
