Zcash price rises ahead of 10th anniversary and Tachyon upgrade
Zcash (ZEC) has seen a 7% price increase over the last 24 hours, reaching approximately $1,307 and bringing its market capitalization to $22.1 billion. This market movement occurs just ahead of the network's 10th anniversary on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
The development team is currently highlighting the upcoming Tachyon upgrade. Led by Sean Bowe, this scaling proposal aims to make on-chain private payments up to 100 times smaller, significantly reducing the data load as private transactions increase. While developers have recently released Udon—a component to integrate Tachyon into Zakura Common—the upgrade is still in the early stages and requires further development and security reviews before mainnet activation.
Over its decade of operation, Zcash has undergone ten major network updates to improve privacy and efficiency. Key milestones include Sapling, which enabled mobile private payments, and Blossom, which reduced block times. More recent updates, such as the Orchard pool, have worked to remove the need for trusted setups, enhancing the decentralized nature of the protocol.
