Zcash price faces volatility amid whale accumulation

Zcash (ZEC) is experiencing significant market volatility following a recent rally from approximately $500 in mid-August. The token recently pulled back from a multi-year high near $1,290, trading around $1,139. This correction was driven by a derivatives market reset, where approximately $17.2 million in long positions were liquidated and futures open interest dropped by about 20% over a 24-hour period.

Despite the price pressure, large-scale accumulation has been observed. A single whale reportedly acquired roughly 12.87K ZEC, valued at approximately $13.65 million, across major exchanges including Binance, OKX, Kraken, and Gate. This activity coincided with aggressive spot-market buying, as indicated by taker-buy dominance in the Spot Taker CVD metric.

Other factors influencing the market include the launch of Grayscale’s Zcash Trust on NYSE Arca and improving mining economics, which have contributed to both the earlier price advances and the current fundamental backdrop.
