Zcash price surges past $1,500 amid NU7 upgrade plans

Zcash (ZEC) is experiencing significant market momentum, with its price recently surging past $1,500. This rally is driven by several factors, including increased institutional interest following the launch of Grayscale’s Zcash exchange-traded product (ZCSH) on NYSE Arca, and heightened social media activity. The price action has also resulted in substantial liquidations for short sellers, with one notable trader facing unrealized losses exceeding $33 million.

On the technical side, Zcash developers have announced a timeline for the NU7 network upgrade. The upgrade is targeted for mainnet activation on November 5, with a testnet rollout scheduled for October 6. A primary goal of NU7 is to increase network efficiency by reducing block intervals from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. The upgrade will also introduce a Network Sustainability Mechanism (NSM) to manage transaction fees while maintaining the existing halving schedule.

Furthermore, the Zcash ecosystem is seeing increased cross-chain utility through NEAR Intents. The Zashi wallet has integrated NEAR Intents to facilitate seamless swaps between ZEC and other assets like BTC and SOL. This integration has positioned NEAR as a settlement infrastructure for Zcash liquidity, with NEAR Intents recording significant transaction volumes and generating protocol revenue that is partially used for NEAR token buybacks.
