Ózd hospital faces pediatric specialist shortage

The Almási Balogh Pál Hospital in Ózd is facing a critical shortage of specialist doctors, specifically impacting its pediatric department. Dr. János Bélteczki, the hospital's director, described the specialist shortage in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County as catastrophic.

Following a period of full coverage, the pediatric ward will face significant service changes. From August 19 until August 31, there will be no specialist coverage on weekends and holidays, with only neonatal-related standby services provided by two rotating specialists. During weekdays, full care will be available from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. After 3:00 PM, children requiring specialized medical attention will be transported by the National Ambulance Service (OMSZ) to hospitals in Miskolc.

Dr. Bélteczki stated that the hospital is negotiating with potential new colleagues to increase the number of days local care can be provided and aims to minimize the days patients must be transferred to Miskolc. Government officials, including State Secretary László Buga, have been informed of the severe specialist shortage affecting pediatric care in the region.
