ZDF broadcasts family drama Neues Land

The ZDF television film “Neues Land,” directed by Esther Rauch, follows geologist Ina Sedlitz as she returns to her home village of Neukirch. The setting, a former brown coal mining region in central Germany, has transitioned from an industrial site into a tourist destination featuring artificial lakes.

Upon her return, Ina intends to transfer her share of the family hotel to her niece, Mara. However, while conducting geological investigations of the local lake, she discovers that the ground is dangerously unstable. The narrative also explores long-held family secrets and the complex relationship between the transformed landscape, industry, and nature.
