Germany arrests suspect in 1995 Lidl manager murder

German authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the 1995 robbery and murder of a Lidl store manager in St. Tönis. The victim, 24-year-old Sonja K., was tied up and strangled during a robbery in which several thousand Deutsche Marks were stolen from the store's safe.

The suspect, a 59-year-old man who was previously employed as a store detective at the same Lidl location, was apprehended at his residence in Krefeld. Investigators utilized modern DNA analysis techniques to match his genetic profile to traces found on the victim's clothing, a breakthrough that was not possible when the crime occurred nearly 32 years ago.

The suspect is currently in custody under suspicion of murder. While the individual has remained quiet regarding the allegations, police indicate they believe other perpetrators may have been involved in the original crime.
