ZDF crime series Friesland releases new film involving stolen mummy

The ZDF crime series ‘Friesland’ is releasing a new installment titled ‘Der letzte Häuptling’ (The Last Chief). Set in the town of Leer, the plot follows investigators Henk Cassens and Süher Özlügül as they deal with the discovery of a mummified corpse found in an explosion crater on a sheep farmer's field.

The situation escalates when the mummy is stolen from a funeral home, and the undertaker is assaulted and locked in a coffin. The investigation involves various conflicting interests, including a landowner seeking to sell the property, a solar park project manager wanting to avoid archaeological delays, and a historian believing the remains belong to an ancient Frisian chief. The film is scheduled to air on ZDF on October 17.
