ZDF Fernsehgarten adjusts schedule after Berlin CSD attack
A vehicle rammed into the crowd at the Christopher Street Day (CSD) celebration in Berlin’s Tiergarten on Saturday night, killing one woman and injuring many others. Police and the public prosecutor are searching for a suspect, identified as 21‑year‑old Abdul Ballout, with authorities suggesting an Islamist motive. During the ZDF Fernsehgarten broadcast on 26 July, host Andrea Kiewel paused the show to deliver an emotional tribute, saying “We are with you” and “We love you” to the victims. ARD also altered its programming, postponing the regular "Tatort" episode and airing a special 15‑minute “Brennpunkt” on the attack.
The live Fernsehgarten show was cancelled for 9 August because the venue was used to record Giovanni Zarrella’s open‑air concert, prompting ZDF to replace the slot with a recorded quiz special and later resume the regular format. A documentary titled "Backstage Fernsehgarten" about the programme’s 40‑year history aired on 19 August.
