ZDF launches drama series on Kabul evacuation
The German public‑service broadcaster ZDF has begun airing the six‑part series "Kabul – Flucht aus der Hölle". The political thriller dramatizes the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021 and the chaotic evacuation from Kabul, following a family, an Italian diplomat and a German soldier as they seek safety.
The series premiered on 27 July 2026 with two episodes broadcast at 22:15, followed by two more episodes on each of the next two nights. All six episodes are also available on ZDF’s Mediathek from 20 July 2026. It is an international co‑production of the European Alliance together with New8, presented as a German‑language series but depicting events in Afghanistan and involving characters such as Zahara, Baqir, their son Fazal, daughter Amina, diplomat Giovanni, soldier Vera and French embassy attaché Gilles.
