German ZDF Miniseries 'Kabul – Flucht aus der Hölle' Debuts as Actor Eric Dane Dies

The German public‑service channel ZDF is launching the six‑part drama series "Kabul – Flucht aus der Hölle". The 50‑minute episodes, a French‑German‑Greek co‑production directed by Kasia Adamik and Olga Chajdas, recount the chaotic evacuation of Kabul in August 2021 after the NATO withdrawal and the Taliban’s takeover. The story follows CIA operative Martin, played by the late Hollywood actor Eric Dane, who infiltrates an IS‑linked terror cell.

Eric Dane, known for "Grey’s Anatomy" and diagnosed with ALS in 2025, died in February 2026, roughly two years after filming his final role. ZDF will stream the series on its platform and broadcast it on television on 27, 28 and 29 July 2026. The series aims to dramatize real‑world events such as the mass flight of Afghans, the international rescue missions by U.S., German and NATO forces, and the political turmoil surrounding the U.S. withdrawal announced by President Joe Biden in April 2021.
