ZDF reports record high for women in leadership roles

The German broadcaster ZDF has reached a record high for female representation in leadership roles. According to a report presented to the Television Council, 47.6 percent of ZDF executives are women, significantly exceeding the approximately 30 percent average found in other German media companies.

ZDF Director-General Dr. Norbert Himmler stated that the figures demonstrate the success of the broadcaster’s equality initiatives and noted that the organization is nearing its goal of parity in leadership positions. The report also highlighted high female participation in training programs, noting that in 2025, women accounted for 45 of the 85 apprentices and 60 percent of editorial trainees. The overall female employment rate at ZDF stands at 51.2 percent.

Equality Officer Stephanie Keppler emphasized the ongoing need to remove existing barriers and provide development opportunities for all employees. To further these goals, diversity objectives are being integrated into the corporate strategy, including a 2026 employee survey focused on diversity, work-life balance, and experiences of discrimination.
