ZDF ends 46‑year‑old crime series ‘Ein Fall für zwei’
The public broadcaster ZDF announced that its long‑running Friday‑night crime series “Ein Fall für zwei” will be discontinued after 46 years on air. The series, which first aired in 1981, will have a final season of four episodes shown next year, followed by a 90‑minute feature film to be shot in 2027 that will serve as a proper conclusion. The current incarnation, starring Antoine Monot Jr. as lawyer Benni Hornberg and Wanja Mues as private detective Leo Oswald, has been on screen since 2014 and will continue until the series ends. ZDF said the decision was taken “after careful consideration” and thanked the entire team for their long‑standing work, noting that the show “has shaped the ZDF‑Friday crime slot for more than four decades.” The cancellation is part of a broader programming restructuring aimed at focusing on fewer formats while maintaining a Friday crime slot with other series. Fans expressed disappointment at the loss of a staple of German television.
