ZDF's 'Die neue Zeit' dramatizes the 1919 founding of the Bauhaus

The German public‑service channel ZDF is rebroadcasting its six‑part miniseries "Die neue Zeit" on 8 August 2026. The drama, first aired in September 2019, follows fictional Bauhaus students such as Dörte Helm, the daughter of philology professor Rudolf Helm, and Gunta Stölzl as they navigate the revolutionary art school founded in 1919 in Weimar.

The series portrays Walter Gropius as the networker who established the Bauhaus as a co‑educational institution that promoted gender equality and artistic freedom. Each episode runs about 45 minutes and mixes historical figures with fictional storylines, showing the students living together in a dormitory and confronting the social tensions of the early Weimar Republic.
