ZEE Entertainment upgrades ZEE5 infrastructure and secures anti‑piracy order for FIFA World Cup 2026 in India
ZEE Entertainment has upgraded the ZEE5 platform ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scaling the service to support millions of concurrent viewers with added resiliency layers, fallback mechanisms and enhanced observability. The company also obtained a dynamic injunction from the Delhi High Court that enables real‑time blocking of piracy sites by directing ISPs and regulators to block mirror and proxy sites.
The streaming rights cost ZEE an estimated $35 million per year. To recover the expense, ZEE5 aims to acquire at least three million subscribers, targeting younger, urban and digitally engaged football fans. Beyond the tournament, ZEE plans to use the event to build long‑term audience engagement through youth competitions, exclusive documentaries and year‑round sports content, positioning itself against rivals such as JioTV and SonyLIV.
