Zeeland healthcare providers implement structural changes to address staff shortages
Healthcare cooperation in the Zeeland region of the Netherlands is undergoing structural changes to address staffing shortages and organizational challenges. The GP organization ‘Zorg op Zak’, which serves 16,000 patients across ‘s-Heerenhoek, Ovezande, ‘s-Gravenpolder, and Hansweert, will maintain its collaborative model despite difficulties attracting new practitioners. To ensure continuity, management and entrepreneurial tasks will be transferred to ‘De huisartsenconnectie’ on January 1.
Separately, health insurer CZ reported early results from the Zeeuwse Zorg Coalitie transformation plan. Supported by 83.4 million euros in transformation funds, the initiative aims to mitigate a projected shortage of 7,500 healthcare workers by 2030. The coalition has implemented hundreds of practical changes, including digitalization efforts such as automated sensors and voice-based reporting to reduce administrative burdens, as well as digital pre-screening for GP patients to improve triage efficiency.
