Zeewolde implements temporary surveillance after restaurant explosions

The municipality of Zeewolde is implementing temporary camera surveillance around Flevoplein and Horsterplein following a series of incidents. Mayor Harmsma made the decision after the restaurant De Nieuwe Lotus was targeted by two explosions on August 25 and September 9.

Authorities suspect the use of flammable liquids and fireworks during these incidents. During the most recent event on September 9, an attempt was also made to break a window with a brick, causing damage and fire hazards. The measures aim to improve public order and safety for residents, business owners, and visitors, while supporting police investigations.

The surveillance will run for four weeks, until October 7, 2026. The footage can be viewed live and may be used as evidence in ongoing criminal investigations.
