Zeewolde to debut as garrison municipality during military ceremony

The municipality of Zeewolde will officially present itself as a garrison municipality on October 29, 2026. The event coincides with the swearing-in ceremony of the Medical Troops Regiment (Regiment Geneeskundige Troepen) at the Het Baken sports complex, where soldiers will swear allegiance to the King and commitment to military discipline.

To engage the community, a static show will be held at the Horsterweg event grounds, featuring military vehicles such as the Land Rover Zau, military ambulances, and the 'Viertonner' truck. The municipality has reserved 200 places for residents to attend the ceremony, though pre-registration is mandatory.

This development is part of a larger strategic shift for the region. The New Central Barracks is planned for the Spiekweg area, which is expected to become the largest barracks in the Netherlands. The facility is projected to provide approximately 7,000 jobs and training positions, with a planned relocation of personnel between 2030 and 2035.
