ZEG implements carbon market conservation model in Roraima
In Caracaraí, Roraima, a new conservation model is utilizing technological innovation and socio-environmental actions to participate in the carbon market. The project covers 14,000 hectares of native vegetation and is being promoted by the São Paulo-based decarbonization company ZEG (Zero Emission Goal).
The initiative serves as a productive alternative for forest areas facing pressure from legal deforestation. According to ZEG CEO Carlos Jacob, the land belongs to a soybean producer from Goiás who had applied for state authorization to clear the area. Under the Brazilian Forest Code, Roraima can reduce legal reserves from 80% to 50% following the completion of ecological-economic zoning in 2022.
By opting for the carbon market model instead of clearing the land for soybean cultivation, the producer aims to maintain the native Amazon biome while ensuring economic competitiveness.
